About us
Our Identity: The Heart of Nevada Athletics
Mackay Stadium is more than just a sports facility; it is a landmark and a beacon for the University of Nevada, Reno, and the entire northern Nevada region. As the official home of the Nevada Wolf Pack Football and Women’s Soccer teams, we embody the passion, dedication, and competitive spirit of Division I collegiate athletics. Our mission is to provide a world-class venue that supports athletic excellence, fosters school pride, and serves as a premier gathering space for the community.
A Rich and Enduring History
The current Mackay Stadium, which broke ground in 1964 and officially opened in 1966, carries the esteemed name of the original Mackay Stadium. Both facilities honor the Mackay family, particularly John William Mackay and his son Clarence H. Mackay, whose significant philanthropy was instrumental to the early growth of the university. Over the decades, the stadium has seen multiple significant renovations and expansions to meet the demands of modern sports and enhance the fan experience, evolving into the 27,000-seat venue it is today.
Commitment to the Community and Fans
Our commitment extends beyond the sidelines. Mackay Stadium is dedicated to providing an unparalleled experience for every visitor. Recent upgrades have introduced modern amenities, state-of-the-art video and audio technology, and premium seating options like the Basin Street Club. These investments reflect our continuous effort to improve connectivity and comfort for our fans, ensuring a memorable and engaging game day and event experience for all who walk through our gates.
More Than a Venue: A Community Hub
While the cheers of game day are a defining feature, Mackay Stadium plays a crucial role as a multi-purpose community asset. Beyond hosting thrilling collegiate sports, the facility is frequently utilized for university-wide events, corporate functions, and large-scale public gatherings. We pride ourselves on being a flexible and accessible venue that strengthens the connection between the university and the surrounding community.
